Uyen Luu is a London-based food photographer and filmmaker with a studio in Hackney, East London. Her relationship with image-making began young — she built her own darkroom at 13, shooting on celluloid across both stills and moving image long before the digital era. Trained at Central Saint Martins in Fine Art Film & Video, she brings a sharp, considered eye to every frame.
Before turning to photography, Uyen worked as a food stylist — a foundation that deeply informs how she approaches food on set. She has been working professionally as a food photographer since 2012, collaborating with a trusted team of food stylists, cinematographers, and art directors to deliver work at every scale — from intimate editorial shoots to large commercial campaigns across both stills and video.
Her client list spans Kikkoman, Borough Broth, Flora, Poretti, Ben's Original, Marks & Spencer, Grubby Meal Kits, Oggs, Field & Flower, Mollie's Motel, Press Health Foods, and Penguin Random House. She also creates photography-led animation for M&S and Disney.
Alongside her commercial practice, Uyen is an award-winning author of five cookbooks published by Penguin Random House and Ryland Peters & Small — including Vietnamese Vegetarian, (winner of the Best Asian Cookery Prize 2024), and Quick & Easy Vietnamese, (shortlisted for the Guild of Food Writers Award, 2025). She also teaches Vietnamese cooking and hosts a weekly supper club in her East London studio.
Her portfolio spans brand and product photography, cookbooks, catering, people, drinks, botanicals, and moving image — rooted always in the warmth and texture of real food, real kitchens, and real life.
